Acne

Our focus in the acne clinic is on providing people with acne and acne scarring with best options for treatment guided by our experience. Dr. Tan has spent 30 years in acne research and in providing care for those with acne and scarring. Our recommendations are evidence based and focused on providing effective practical options to improve acne and its’ sequelae, including scarring and pigmentation. We can develop a program for you to look and feel your best.

Acne Scarring

There are several treatments available for atrophic acne scars. We start with topical retinoids as Dr. Tan’s research has demonstrated clearance of some atrophic acne scars if used within 3-6 mths of their development.

Acne Pigmentation

Do you have discoloration or stains from your acne?
When acne spots subside, they can leave stains, flat areas of skin discoloration either brown or red and scars like skin indentations or holes. Both can be embarrassing and lead to reduced self-confidence. We understand the burden that acne pigmentation can cause and have studied these aspects.

Benign Brown Spots

These are flat brown marks, usually at cheeks and forehead, that are larger than freckles and develop due to sun exposure and air pollution. They can be bothersome as they are easily visible on the face. It may be difficult to cover up completely with makeup.

Facial Redness

Facial redness can be caused by a variety of factors, ranging from temporary conditions like sunburn or allergic reactions to chronic skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema.

Treatments depend on underlying causes and a consult with a dermatologist should take place before undergoing any treatment plan.

Aging Skin

Do you see a more tired or older version of yourself when you look in the mirror?

Facial aging is a natural process that occurs due to a combination of factors, including genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors. Common causes of facial aging include sun exposure, smoking, repeated facial expressions, and the natural loss of fat and collagen in the skin and bony structures of the face.

Skin Tags

Skin tags, medically known as acrochordons, are small, usually benign growths that appear as soft, flesh-colored or slightly darker skin-colored bumps attached to the skin by a stalk or peduncle.

In rare instances, skin tags may be a presentation for skin cancer (Pinkus tumor). If there is uncertainty, a dermatologist should be consulted.

Melasma

Melasma refers to brown splotches on the face affecting the sides of the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. This can be mild or particularly facially disfiguring, if extensive and dark.

Trigger factors include sun exposure, pregnancy, hormones including birth control pills, and a family tendency. While it can affect both genders, women are more frequently affected.

Moles

Moles, also known as nevi, are common growths on the skin that develop when melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells in the skin, grow in clusters. Moles can vary in size, shape, color, and texture, and they can appear anywhere on the body.

Vascular & Pigmented Lesions

Skin pigmentation is the color of your skin, which is determined by the amount and type of melanin, a pigment produced by specialized skin cells called melanocytes. Changes in melanin production can cause pigment disorders, such as hyperpigmentation (dark spots), hypopigmentation (light spots), or depigmentation (white spots or patches).

Rough & Dry Skin

Rough dry skin is due to skin stress affecting the outer layer. This can be due to a variety of factors.

If your dry, rough skin persists despite home remedies or if it’s accompanied by other symptoms such as itching, redness, or inflammation, contact our team at Healthy Image. We can help diagnose underlying skin conditions and recommend appropriate treatment.

Veins & Vessel Marks

Blood vessel marks on the skin are extremely common and can affect the face and body. The most common concerns presenting to us are the small, dilated blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin, often resembling spider webs or tree branches.

For the best treatment possible, it’s important to consult with a dermatologist to determine the most suitable treatment approach based on the size, location, and severity of spider veins, as well as individual health factors and preferences.

Wrinkles

Facial lines and wrinkles develop over time for many reasons. They are a natural effect of aging but can be aggravated by environmental factors leading to loss of the skin’s structural support. For example, loss of skin collagen and elastic tissue is a normal part of aging but worsens with excessive sun exposure.

Treatments vary depending on wrinkle type, severity, and individual preferences.
